Washburn is committed to excellence in teaching, scholarly work, quality academic and professional programs, and high levels of faculty-student interaction. We develop and engage in relationships to enhance educational experiences and our community. Washburn profits from its capital city location, embraces diversity in its faculty and student body, and promotes a shared purpose through interdisciplinary opportunities, small classes, and individual instruction. Washburn University, including its Washburn Institute of Technology campus and School of Law, offers courses of study leading to credentials from certificates to doctoral degrees. We have a program for those anywhere on their educational journey—from high schoolers to the retired, from those pursuing a GED to those on a quest for a doctorate. Washburn also has unique opportunities, such as the Washburn Transformational Experience—in which a student can choose to pursue a scholarly or creative project, an international experience, leadership skills, and/or community engaged learning—and forensics programs utilizing the Kansas Bureau of Investigation’s facilities and expertise. Internally, Washburn is organized into six schools: the College of Arts & Sciences, the School of Applied Studies, the School of Business, the School of Nursing, the School of Law, and the Washburn Institute of Technology. Why you should attend?

Washburn University is a veteran and military friendly campus that has earned the title of Purple Heart University. As a small community, Washburn has a huge heart that understands the challenges and needs that veterans and military students will need resources to overcome in order to academically succeed. Therefore, Washburn maintains a Military Success Center dedicated to supporting student veterans, military dependents, and current serving military students. Washburn University is an excellent choice for military service members, veterans, and their dependents because of our commitment to the student as an individual with unique needs. Conveniently located a few blocks from the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center, student veterans have easy access to free health care for their unique medical needs. Diversity and inclusion is taught, practiced, and reinforced across campus so that everyone has a mutual understanding and respect. Furthermore, we understand that these students have experienced unique experiences that will require unique resources for them to be successful on and off campus. Washburn University has a full time employee, Military Transitions Coordinator, staffing the Military Success Center to facilitate connecting military connected students and veterans with necessary resources.
