Named the 2024 Student Veteran Athlete of the Year by Military Friendly, Matthew exemplifies discipline, perseverance, and service that inspire those around him.
As a student-athlete, Matthew excels both on the field and in the classroom. He earned a spot on the 2024 Sun Conference All-Academic Team for Football and has been consistently recognized on Thomas University’s Dean’s List and President’s List in Spring 2023. As Captain of the Thomas University Football Team for the 2024 season, Matthew fosters a culture of teamwork, resilience, and achievement.
Matthew’s leadership extends beyond athletics. Over the past few months, he has been pivotal in bridging the gap during the transition to new coaching staff, maintaining team morale and cohesion. His ability to adapt and lead has been crucial in sustaining team performance and unity.
As a seasoned player, Matthew mentors younger athletes, providing guidance on both athletic performance and personal growth. He offers advice on discipline, time management, and responsibility, helping his teammates navigate collegiate athletics and life.
Matthew also dedicates time to helping young athletes understand the challenges of joining the National Guard. With several teammates planning to join, he educates and supports them, sharing his experiences to ease the transition from civilian life to military service.
