About

Devon Wilson has revolutionized veteran services at Delaware State University, creating transformative opportunities for military-affiliated students through visionary leadership. When Devon arrived, DSU served just 77 veteran students with limited resources. Today, that number exceeds 600 students who receive comprehensive support through systems Devon personally designed. Devon's impact is best measured by his successful removal of DSU from the VA's Risk-Based School list, restoring confidence in the university's veteran programs. This achievement required meticulous attention to compliance standards and a complete administrative overhaul, which Devon executed while expanding services. Through five consecutive successful VA inspections, Devon has maintained the highest standards in veteran education support. His implementation of the Argos reporting system and inclusion of all veteran students in the university's banner system has created unprecedented accountability. Devon secured in-state tuition rates for all military-affiliated students upon presentation of their Certificate of Eligibility or Form Four, making higher education significantly more accessible. Beyond administrative improvements, Devon championed the cultural recognition of veterans, dedicating a POW/MIA chair to honor those missing in action and organizing two military-affiliated graduation ceremonies that celebrate veteran achievements. He accomplished this while maintaining impeccable financial stewardship, managing multiple budgets and passing VA audits. Devon's contribution transcends his job description. By transforming DSU's veteran services from a struggling program to a model of excellence, he has created lasting opportunities for hundreds of veterans pursuing higher education. His commitment to going beyond "thank you for your service" to creating tangible support systems exemplifies the true spirit of the Veteran of the Year award.
