Independence Community College

Independence Community College (ICC) is a two-year educational institution accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. It was established in 1925 in the Independence public school system. In 1967, ICC was separated from the school district. Construction of the new college on a 68-acre campus began in 1969. Classes at the current site started in 1970. ICC campus is now home to the Academic Building, Fine Arts Building, Student Union, FabLab, Field House, Administration Building, William Inge Center for the Arts, a fitness center, athletic practice fields, disc golf course, and residence halls. New programming includes E-sports and Veteran Student Success.

Why you should attend?

Independence Community College (ICC) was named a Purple Heart College in 2020 for our support to military members. Military service members and veterans who attend ICC also have dedicated staff working in the Veteran Student Success Center, including two school certifying officials who help them through every education process. The Veteran Center offers staff and faculty military-affiliated advocacy training, transitions the max amount of previous military experience into college credits, and provides scholarships devoted to veterans and service members. Furthermore, ICC offers a Veterans Lounge with complimentary snacks and coffee, a TV and gaming system, free printing, and computer access.
