About

Marvin serves as a student worker in the Veteran Center and collaborates closely with staff to help the center be a welcoming and safe space for student veterans. He is a true leader who serves as President of the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) Veterans Association. Marvin volunteered to plan and schedule programming and events for the military and veteran community to attend. He was incredibly detailed when presenting content and helping the center engage with additional resources and support from the local veteran community. Marvin represented UNI at the Student Veterans of America (SVA) National Conference where he was awarded the President of the United States Award (silver) for having over 360 volunteer hours last year, and answered questions to provide thorough input regarding the UNI veteran structure and programming on campus (he is also the President for the UNI SVA Chapter. UNI now has an Adopt-A-Highway section of HWY 218 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Marvin continues to serve in roles and areas of responsibility such as program scheduling, information technology, student leadership, and advocacy for his peers and other students on campus. Marvin serves as UNI Sargeant at Arm for the Iowa High School United Nations, UNI Teacher Education Ambassador, Executive Member of Connecting Alumni to Students (CATS), and a Security Supervisor for UNI-Dome/McCleod Center Operations. Marvin's exceptional leadership abilities and work earned him the selection of 2025 Mercy One Heroes Among “Military” recipient. He is the epitome of leadership and is most deserving of the Military Friendly Veteran of the Year.
