Rosario Thomas

Rosario L. Thomas, Sr. has dedicated his life to service—first to his country, and now to his community. As a U.S. Army Veteran with over 15 years of distinguished service, Mr. Thomas exemplified leadership, courage, and resilience. Today, he continues that legacy in civilian life, serving as the Veterans Affairs and Financial Aid Specialist at Southern Union State Community College (SUSCC), where he champions access to education for veterans and their families. Through his role at SUSCC, Mr. Thomas has been instrumental in helping hundreds of student veterans navigate the complexities of their educational benefits. By streamlining certification processes, maintaining compliance with evolving VA policies, and providing personalized guidance, he has directly impacted the academic success and retention of veteran students. His deep understanding of the challenges veterans face in transitioning to college allows him to meet students where they are and lead them toward where they want to be. His impact extends well beyond the college campus. Mr. Thomas has consistently invested in youth development through his volunteer work with "Our House," where he designed summer enrichment activities focusing on physical fitness and literacy for K-5 students. His ongoing mentorship has helped young people build confidence and discipline, both in and out of the classroom. Additionally, his involvement in local churches, as a Sunday School teacher, speaker, and Vacation Bible School leader, has allowed him to mentor, guide, and uplift youth and adults alike. Whether supporting fellow veterans, mentoring youth, or serving as a leader in education, Rosario L. Thomas, Sr. is a catalyst for positive change. His efforts have created meaningful opportunities for others to grow, achieve, and thrive.
