University of the Cumberlands, chartered April 5, 1888, offers students of all backgrounds a broad-based liberal arts program enriched with Christian values. The University attracts students from around the nation and world, many of whom enter college with strong academic credentials and social support systems. However, the University also continues to recruit first-generation college students and students from academically and economically underprivileged backgrounds. Cumberlands encourages students to think critically and creatively so that they may better prepare themselves for lives of responsible service and leadership, which prepare professionals to be servant-leaders in their disciplines and communities.
