Werner has created a military-friendly and military-ready work environment through Operation Freedom: a comprehensive veteran and veteran spouse program that sponsors initiatives including proactive veteran and veteran spouse hiring, an industry-first Department of Labor Apprenticeship Program for truck drivers, diesel mechanics and transportation managers to allow those eligible to use their VA Education Benefits, a veteran GI Bill tuition reimbursement program, Military Skills Test Waiver hiring, an Employer Sponsored Training program, a Freedom Fleet comprised of 10 military-themed trucks, and the creation of Werner's Veteran Enrichment Toolkit (WEVets), an associate resource group for veteran and veteran spouses.
