Why you should attend?

In 2013, UGA formalized its approach to serving its military-affiliated population with the creation of the Student Veterans Resource Center (SVRC). Using strategies organized around easing transition, improving the student experience, and facilitating career readiness, the SVRC focuses its efforts on an integrated suite of programs and services collectively called Persistent Coaching. With partnerships across the university and the world, the UGA SVRC is able to leverage support from veterans groups, corporations, and individuals to assist student veterans with wellness, mentoring, training, and academic success leading to fulfilling careers. Close ties with the University Health Center and the Athens VA Clinic provide immediate, proactive and comprehensive support for all veterans' health needs. Veterans also receive continuous support through partnerships with UGA Veterans Legal Clinic; the UGA Military and Veterans Consortium; and the Council on Military Transition to Education. Complementing these services is strong philanthropic support from the UGA Foundation, the UGA Athletic Association, and Corporate and Community sponsors resulting in over $200,000 in veteran specific academic awards annually. In our most recent semester, 32% of our student veterans were awarded grants and scholarships, and all student veterans seeking internships were granted those opportunities.
