Founded in 1885, the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology (SD Mines) is a public university with a reputation for excellence in STEM education. Located near the beautiful Black Hills and Mount Rushmore, SD Mines offers programs through the doctoral level. We boast a 100% graduate placement rate for military/veteran students over the past five years. Also, SDSM&T is a STEM university our academic programs are fields heavily targeted by today's employers and for which military students are particularly suited. Additionally, the support that military students receive here is phenomenal, such as: a benchmark Veterans Resource Center; Veterans Upward Bound on site; veteran-to-veteran tutoring and mentoring; military-specific orientation; military-specific scholarship, financial literacy, and college success workshops; and yearly, multiple, campus-wide military appreciation events.

A general program that focuses on the scientific study of the composition and behavior of the atmospheric envelopes surrounding the earth, the effect of earth's atmosphere on terrestrial weather, and related problems of environment and climate. Includes instruction in atmospheric chemistry and physics, atmospheric dynamics, climatology and climate change, weather simulation, weather forecasting, climate modeling and mathematical theory; and studies of specific phenomena such as clouds, weather systems, storms, and precipitation patterns.
