Independence Community College

Independence Community College, a two-year educational institution accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, was established in 1925 as grades 13 and 14 of the Independence public school system but separated from the school in 1967. Construction of the new college on a 68 acre campus, a former golf course, began in 1969 and is now home to the Administration, Academic, Fine Arts and Student Union buildings, Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Field House, William Inge Center for the Arts, Allied Health, Cosmetology, GED/ABE and Veterinary Technology, fitness center, athletic practice fields, disc golf course and 296 dorm room accommodations,

Why you should attend?

Converted outdated space in the Student Union Building for a Veteran Student Success Center. Established a 20member Veteran Student Support team of on-campus and off-campus leaders. Organized veteran student staff of 12 southeast Kansas colleges for a yearly Symposium. Developed a radio recruiting ad airing 21 times per week. Designed-adopted a Veteran Students Recognition Award project. Created a Patriot Award program. Established a Student Veterans of America chapter. Already a Purple Heart College/Military Friendly School and only college in state of Kansas to receive a Center of Excellence for Veteran Students Success grant from the U. S. Dept. of Education.
